Greens will not toast Howard
The Green MPs will be joining peace rallies during Australian Prime Minister John Howard's visit and will not be attending the state luncheon in Wellington.
"We think it better for us to be with those trying to stop a war against Iraq, rather than celebrating the visit of a leader who has committed troops to that war," Green Co-leader Jeanette Fitzsimons said today.
"We think it is an inappropriate time to be toasting John Howard, when his troops are already deployed for an assault that will kill so many Iraqis, most of them innocent civilians."
Green MPs will be involved in the following rallies:
Saturday 8th March - 4.00pm at the new Australian High Commission office, Quay St. Auckland; - 5.30pm at the Sheraton Hotel, Symonds St. Auckland; Sunday 9th March - 9.15am at the Sheraton; Monday 10th March - march to Parliament, starting 12.30 Midland Park, Wellington.
