United Future prove how green they are
The National Party’s condemning United Future’s support for the Local Government Bill which threatens special rules for Maori and extra costs for consultation.
“The National Party greets with deep disappointment the decision by the so-called ‘common sense’ party, to sign up to something so stupid as Labour’s 11th hour agreement to save the Local Government Bill,” says National’s Gerry Brownlee.
“United Future’s claimed concerns about the increased costs this Bill will inflict on ratepayers are now clearly laughable.
“The easy manner in which United Future has rolled over on this issue goes to show what an impotent political force the Party is,” according to National’s Local Government spokesman.
“The 11th hour deal will inflict the new Local Government provisions on ratepayers for five years before there’s any review.
“If Larry Baldock and his colleagues believe any of the Bill’s provisions will be overturned by the Local Government Commission they must be dreaming.
“The reality is, United Future has once again allowed the Labour Government to inflict legislation on New Zealanders that United Future doesn’t believe in - how sensible is that?” asks Mr Brownlee.
