Government Supports Deregulation?
The Labour Government's new-found zeal for deregulation is welcome, ACT Rural Affairs Spokesman Gerry Eckhoff said today.
"The Hop Industry Restructuring Bill received unanimous support from Parliament to go to the Select Committee. It has taken Parliament 63 years to deregulate this industry which can now only progress.
"One hopes that Minister Damien O'Connor's enthusiasm for deregulation of industry will include ACC, which has imposed huge cost increases on all land-based industry.
Failure to deregulate ACC will show New Zealanders that this government is far from genuine in its pronouncements to the House that it is business-friendly," Mr Eckhoff said.
