Dalziel To Welcome Home Kiwi Peacekeepers
Local MP and Cabinet Minister Lianne Dalziel will on behalf of the government, officially welcome home the 5th New Zealand Battalion Group recently returned from peacekeeping duties in East Timor.
Their homecoming will be marked with over 500 soldiers marching in a parade from Christchurch’s Bridge of Remembrance, along Cashel Mall, Colombo Street to Cathedral Square.
“New Zealand peacekeepers have made an enormous contribution to the rebuilding of East Timor as an independent nation, and this homecoming celebration is a wonderful opportunity for us to say thank you to those soldiers for their commitment and also to the family members who were left behind during their deployment,” Lianne Dalziel.
“I certainly urge Cantabrians to come out in force and join with the families in welcoming these brave men and women home, and to acknowledge how proud we all are that they served our country with such distinction in East Timor.”
