GE Tactics Based On Untruths And Prejudice
“Dirty tactics employed by the Greens and Nicky Hager, show this election is in grave danger of being decided by misrepresentation of the truth and prejudice,” says Progressive Coalition leader Jim Anderton.
“In 2000 a question was raised with the government over the contamination of some imported corn seeds which, if they were GE modified, would have been illegal. The Government then sought advice and had the seeds tested.
“These same corn seeds that Nicky Hager claims were genetically engineered were tested and the results were that it was impossible to conclude there was any GE contamination. The lobbying and the cover up supposed to be promoted by ‘big business’ didn’t happen. It is a gratuitous insult to suggest that this Government was cowered into some kind of ‘cover-up’ by big business interests.
“That accusation is completely untrue and without any foundation whatever.
“Jeanette Fitzsimons who was briefed on the issue now claims she wasn’t. Jeanette was briefed by Marion Hobbs and was also present when the Royal Commission was briefed. Ms Fitzsimons also says she didn’t know what was in this book which was published by a high profile Green list candidate. Yeah right!
“There are many important election issues, including jobs, the economy health and education as well as GE. However New Zealand’s best interests will be served by debate on facts and not on conspiracy theories.”
