ACT Education Spokesman MP Donna Awatere Huata today volunteered to take extracurricular activities in place of striking teachers.
"Kids shouldn't be suffering because the union and the Minister are too bloody-minded to sort their mess out."
Mrs Awatere Huata, a trained opera singer, is volunteering to take singing and debating lessons. Other ACT MPs are willing to help coach sports and debating teams.
"ACT believes good teachers should be paid more. We also believe that politicians should set a good example for our kids.
"That's why I'm volunteering to help secondary school children, rather than joining the political slanging match that is getting New Zealand nowhere," Mrs Awatere Huata said.
