Nutty Green Fisheries ‘Policy’ Will Bankrupt Industry
New Zealand First wants to know what planet the Green Party is on when all their fisheries policy, announced by Jeanette Fitzsimmons at the annual seafood industry conference, seems to do is call for a 200-fold increase in areas that would face a total fishing ban.
“Obviously this policy is aimed at liberal urban Remuera or Khandallah tree-huggers types who wouldn’t know one end of a fish from the other. They have arbitrarily chosen a nice sounding number and called for a ban of fishing without any reference to the facts, but which sounds good on a press release,” said Leader Winston Peters today.
“It will bankrupt the fishing industry. Everyone from the fishers themselves to retailers to exporters would face crippling costs if this latest barmy policy from the Greens is followed through. The price of fish would also increase to beyond the grasp of normal New Zealanders.
