Not Too Late For Proper Evaluation Of Woolcorp Proposal
Tuesday 7 May 2002
The proposal put together by Woolcorp for the future of the wool industry deserves a proper independent and professional evaluation before the Wool Board's proposals are finalised, ACT Rural Affairs Spokesman MP Owen Jennings said today.
"The Woolcorp concept has never been given a fair and adequate perusal so that growers could compare it with any other proposals.
"The concept has been tainted by those who have suggested it was a "compulsory acquisition model". However, it does not rely on a single desk entity.
" The ACT party does not necessarily endorse any particular approach to securing a stable and profitable future for the wool industry, but it is concerned that Woolcorp's ideas have been dismissed by the Board without being given the courtesy of a professional evaluation.
"The Wool Board's own proposals seem unacceptable to growers so alternative suggestions should be given proper process," Mr Jennings said.
