Swain Announces Appointment Of New Zealand Chair To Joint Accreditation System Of Australia And New Zealand
Commerce Minister Paul Swain has announced the appointment of Hamilton man Dean Stockwell as the new Chair of the Joint
Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JAS-ANZ).
Dean Stockwell, is the existing Vice-Chair of JAS-ANZ, he replaces current chair Barry Roberts of Australia. Mr
Stockwell has been associated with JAS-ANZ for ten years and has had long experience with the New Zealand dairy and food
industries.
JAS-ANZ was established under treaty between Australia and New Zealand in 1991. The organisation’s key objective is the
establishment of an internationally recognised accreditation system for quality management systems (QMS), product
certification and personnel certification.
This accreditation establishes confidence in, and recognition of, the producers and products of New Zealand and
Australia.
Paul Swain said it’s important that New Zealand regulators use this existing and world recognised accreditation
framework.
“The JAS-ANZ accreditation framework is one of the best third party accreditation infrastructures in the world and is
internationally recognised by our trading partners,” Paul Swain said.
“I encourage our regulators to make full use of this infrastructure, there’s no need to reinvent the wheel by creating
new systems.
"The appointment of Dean Stockwell coincides with a new priority that JAS-ANZ is giving to enhancing the New Zealand
market.
“This will further reduce barriers to trade for New Zealand exporters – it’s a welcome move,” Paul Swain said.
