Minister In Australia For Rugby Meetings

Published: Wed 13 Mar 2002 01:50 PM
Sport, Fitness and Leisure Minister Trevor Mallard today confirmed that he was visiting Australia for meetings regarding the Rugby World Cup.
“As I said on Monday, it is the government’s intention to support the New Zealand’s bid to sub-host the Rugby World Cup 2003,” Trevor Mallard said.
“The Australian meetings are part of that process.
“At this stage, I do not believe it would be helpful to the key objective of hosting
World Cup games in New Zealand to disclose further information about those meetings.
“What is important is that the government recognises the financial and cultural benefits of hosting World Cup games and are willing to help achieve a solution to the current problems,” Trevor Mallard said.
