Deputy Prime Minister Jim Anderton today upped the ante for NZ Post and Kiwibank by promising in Parliament that "Kiwibank will be opening somewhere between 300 and 340 branches throughout New Zealand this year"
ACT Finance Spokesman MP Rodney Hide said nobody would be more surprised than NZ Post officials.
"I am sure this news will be a shock to Kiwibank officials who have been busy revising down their forecasted bank branches open by May from 300 to 250.
"It will also come as a surprise to franchisees. There are only 315 NZ Post Shops in the country.
"Mr Anderton now needs to explain just where his promised 300 to 340 Kiwibank branches by year's end will come from," Mr Hide said.
