United Future today expressed its concerns about Green Party support for a separate justice system based on ethnicity.
Party Leader, Hon Peter Dunne, said while United Future was keen to reform the justice system it did not believe the
answer was to develop a race-based alternative justice system.
"There should be one law for all - regardless of race," said Mr Dunne.
"United Future is committed to a democratic, multicultural society which valued the contributions made by its citizens
of all ethnic backgrounds," said Mr Dunne.
"If our justice system needs to be reformed because it is not working then we should examine that question with a view
to making it work for all New Zealanders."
"That is a better solution than trying to develop two separate systems of justice."
"We need to work together to develop a modern identity as a multicultural community in the South Pacific," said Mr
Dunne.
"Many New Zealanders will be surprised that the Green Party is supporting a race-based justice system."
"It's almost a contradiction of terms."
"This sort of woolly thinking is what people are supporting when they vote Green."
"Fortunately there is now a centrist party which is both pro-environment and supportive of developing a cohesive
national identity - that party is United Future," said Mr Dunne.
