ACT Deputy Leader Ken Shirley announced today that he had been selected by the party to stand in the Tamaki electorate.
“I’m delighted to be offered the opportunity to stand in Tamaki.
“This decision by the party that I as deputy leader should stand in Tamaki is an acknowledgement of the importance we
place on this and other key Auckland electorates.
“In the past we have enjoyed tremendous support particularly in Tamaki, Epsom and North Shore. It is our intention to
grow the strong party vote we have previously achieved in these electorates.
“ACT believes it is important to select candidates early for priority electorates so that the candidate can spend plenty
of time in the area getting to know it well. As a party we believe it is important to be getting our policies and ideas
out to the people at all times – and not just election year.
“I am already ACT’s caucus member with responsibility for part of the greater Auckland region and spend about two or
three days a week in Auckland so I am aware of the matters that concern people.
“I’ll be focussing on key local issues such as Auckland’s appalling traffic congestion and promoting sensible solutions.
