Peters Accuses Act Of Hypocrisy And Insincerity Over War Vets Issue
The Rt Hon Winston Peters MP, Leader of New Zealand First, today said that the sincerity of ACT’s concerns for War Veterans was undermined by the support they gave to the National Minority Government, following the break-up of the New Zealand First/National Coalition, when National reneged on commitments made to the War Veterans at New Zealand First’s instigation.
“Rodney Hide’s comments show ACT to be a party of hypocrisy and inconsistency and, even worse, a political party prepared to use victims like the War Veterans to score cheap political points. If Mr Hide and the ACT Party sincerely cared about the War Vets they would have shown that support by condemning Jenny Shipley and her National Minority Government when they turned their backs on these people and their families – instead they supported Mrs Shipley on this issue,” said Mr Peters.
