Apple industry rumours urgently need clarification
Tuesday 13th Feb 2001 Owen Jennings Media Release -- Other
The strong rumours of special arrangements for some growers entered into by ENZA must be dealt with urgently, said ACT Rural Affairs Spokesman Owen Jennings.
“Conditions in the apple industry have deteriorated badly and grower morale is at a low ebb. If ENZA are considering bypassing the regulations and the express wishes of Parliament they will create even more confusion, fear, and despair among growers.
“ENZA must clarify this issue before more harm is done. The non-discriminatory clause in the apple regulations is vital to the nature of the present marketing arrangements. Those marketing arrangements are a major hindrance to progress but while they are law they must be adhered to,” Mr Jennings said.
