The Auditor-General’s report on matters relating to Airways Corporation was predictably worthless, said New Zealand
First Leader, Winston Peters.
“David Macdonald was hamstrung by the limited terms of reference for the inquiry into the Trumper papers and could not
address the critical issues that I raised, such as air traffic safety in New Zealand.
“There was also the lack of a tender for a new Air Traffic System, the long overdue Oceanic Control System, and the
effect of senior executives living overseas.
“When the terms of reference were announced we asked both the SOE Minister and the Auditor-General to extend them
because the investigation was confined to the Companies Act and not the Public Finance Act.
“We had faith in the Auditor-General, David Macdonald, but he himself pointed out the limited scope of his inquiry
before he started and he repeats this in the report (page 11).
“We will continue to raise the issues not covered in this report in further Parliamentary questions,“ said Mr Peters.
