ACT leader Richard Prebble wants Prime Minister Helen Clark to publicly outline her proposed changes to the Employment
Relations Bill.
“Prime Minister Clark thinks that by telling business she’s read the Employment Relations Bill while flying back from
Berlin, she is somehow reassuring them,” Mr Prebble said.
“What she is actually saying is that she hadn’t read the most important legislation introduced by the coalition! A Bill
that’s absolutely terrorising businesses and brought investment to a shuddering halt managed to get waved through
Cabinet by a Prime Minister who had not even read it!”
“I’ve got news for Helen Clark – business isn’t impressed that she’s finally read it. What the whole country wants to
know is what changes she will make to it. If she sat down with the select committee for an hour, the people who have
heard from businesses and unions, workers and employers from up and down New Zealand, we could tell her exactly what the
Bill needs. It needs very severe pruning,” Mr Prebble said.
“It appears this latest overseas trip was of some use after all. Now all Clark has to do is convince Margaret Wilson to
read the Bill too,“ he said.
