First meeting of Tairawhiti Development Taskforce
Up and running in Tairawhiti…
The new Tairawhiti Development Taskforce will hold its first meeting on Friday, 19 May 2000.
News media are invited to a news media conference following the meeting at the Gisborne District Council Chambers.
The Taskforce was formed at the invitation of Wairoa mayor Derek Fox and Gisborne mayor John Clarke. It is the new Coalition Government’s first opportunity to begin implementing its regional development partnership.
The Taskforce will bring together central and local government, runanga and the private sector to provide leadership in a regional development strategy and plan that improves the lives of Tairawhiti people.
The news conference will announce the Taskforce’s formation, structure and work programme.
Deputy Prime Minister, Jim Anderton, chairs the taskforce. Other members include Derek Fox, John Clarke, Associate Minister of Maori Affairs, Parekura Horomia, East Coast MP Janet Mackey, and leaders of three runanga.
