Victims vs criminals in sticker campaign debate
Car theft is rife in Auckland and car owners would welcome the Christchurch yellow sticker campaign if it works, says
Opposition Police spokesman Brian Neeson.
"Car owners are sick and tired of young punks stealing their cars. They already pay high premiums for insurance but that
doesn't stop the thieves. They want an easy, cheap way to protect their property.
"If the yellow sticker campaign in Christchurch works then the Government should get it up to Auckland and not give in
to the bleats of discrimination from the Youth Affairs Minister, Laila Harre.
"Ms Harre is off the wall if she thinks the sticker campaign is discrimination. This is political correctness gone mad.
"The only people discriminated against by the sticker are the thieves that have less cars to choose from. Are these the
people Ms Harre is supporting?
"We should be encouraging any initiative that helps reduce crime. The yellow triangle sticker is a simple, cost
effective crime-fighting tool. This Government is showing signs that it will be soft on criminals and will forget about
the rights of victims of crime," Mr Neeson said.
