Te Papa and the NZSO will continue to face ‘deep financial trouble’ unless alternative and sustainable funding sources
are secured according to ACT Culture and Heritage Spokesman, Penny Webster.
“It’s clear that these jewels in the crown of New Zealand’s cultural institutions will face the same financial crisis
each year they have to go cap in hand to the Government to keep going.
“Despite Labour’s rhetoric there is no financial certainty for Te Papa and the NZSO while they rely on the Government to
provide. Labour knows even they cannot simply give Te Papa and the NZSO more and more money each year they face
shortfalls.
“Even Helen Clark has said that while the Government would not let important cultural institutions go under ‘that
doesn’t necessarily mean they will get everything they want..
“Both Te Papa and the NZSO are tremendous cultural assets and the reality is both need to look outside Government for
alternative and sustainable funding sources to boost their budgets,” said Penny Webster.
