MORE OF NATIONAL’S BUSINESS INCOMPETENCE
New Zealand First Leader, Rt Hon Winston Peters, today described the $29 million windfall refund of stamp duty, to the privately owned Energy Company, Contact Energy, as yet another case of National’s fiscal incompetence.
“New Zealand First warned the National Government about this stamp duty problem when the sale of Contact Energy was driven through Parliament but nobody would listen.
“National claims to be fiscally smart yet by their actions, they constantly reinforce their ineptitude.
“It is incomprehensible that at a time when taxpayers are having their tax deduction rates increased, Companies once owned by taxpayers, sold off at bargain basement prices, can claim such huge refunds.
“Taxpayers anger should be directed toward the National party, in particular, those responsible for the sale of Contact Energy for their cavalier disregard for taxpayers and the warnings given,” said Mr Peters.
