The Labour/Alliance Government has failed to match its Opposition bluster on the removal of senior public servants with
its actions over the exit of beleaguered Police Commissioner Peter Doone.
ACT Police Spokesman Hon Ken Shirley today said that the pain of Peter Doone 'falling on his sword' would be
significantly eased by the large pay packet he'll still be collecting.
"Despite all of Labour's promises they have given a thinly disguised golden handshake to the first senior public servant
to go under their administration.
"The Government has gone soft on Peter Doone by creating a job for him on full pay for the next six months tucked away
in the Prime Minister's Office.
"This is an embarrassment to the Government and to the Police Force. The Government doesn't have confidence in Peter
Doone, his actions in interacting with the rookie constable on election night were found to be 'undesirable' and yet
they are allowing him to save face on full pay for six months.
"How many other senior public servants will have jobs created for them in the Prime Minister's Department during the
course of this administration?" said Hon Ken Shirley.
