WTO Talks Fail – Runabout Death – Chechnya – Bethlehem – Sunday Grog – Soccer Riots
WTO TALKS FAIL: The World Trade talks in Seattle have ended in failure. Developing countries wanted more from the US and Europe.
RUNABOUT DEATH: A child is dead after a new family runabout sank in Auckland. The survivors were all wearing life-jackets – the dead child’s jacket came off. The runabout was new on Friday.
CHECHNYA: Commander of Russian forces in Chechnya says that Grozny is now almost completely surrounded. Two more towns need to be taken to complete the seige.
BETHLEHEM: PLO leader Yasser Arafat has started Millennium celebrations in Bethlehem – the birthplace if Jesus Christ.
SUNDAY GROG: Wellington’s biggest supermarket is expecting strong liquor sales today on the first day of Sunday liquor sales. Chaffers New World says it expects people to drink at home rather than go out.
SOCCER RIOTS: London police have batton charged soccer fans after coming under a hail of bottles and rocks.
