- HOBBS AND BUNKLE: Marion Hobbs and Phillida Bunkle have been cleared of claiming ministerial expenses when they
shouldn’t by an Auditor General’s report. But the report slammed the system of claiming allowances and called for
changes. Both Helen Clark and Jim Anderton have said they’ll look at ways of changing the system. The report found the
advice Marion Hobbs received from Parliamentary Services was probably wrong. Marion Hobbs now wants an apology from
National leader Jenny Shipley for accusing her of cheating. Phillida Bunkle is still awaiting the results of an inquiry
by the Registrar of Electors.
- MARIE JAMIESON: Police say there is a three-day mystery period between the date of the murder of Marie Jamieson and
the finding of her dumped body. Police say more than one person was involved in the murder. Disgust over the crime among
criminals has led to several anonymous tips.
- STUCK PARAGLIDER: A Polish tourist got caught in a tree where she remained for hours after crashing while paragliding.
She is embarrassed but unhurt.
- MIR SPLASHDOWN: Russian experts think they have everything under control for the Mir splashdown. Meanwhile, our
authorities are still trying to contact fishing boats in the area. Splashdown is expected sometime after 6pm tomorrow.
- MIR HOLIDAY: American businessman Dennis Tito paid US$20m for a trip to Mir. He’s not happy the space station is being
scrapped before he had a chance. The Russians now say they will take him to the international space station, which is
described as still being a building site and too dangerous. International authorities are not happy about the prospect
of his presence.
