MAF VETS STRIKE: Many meat workers around the country facing suspension say they support MAF Vets who are threatening to strike. The strike is taking place at a peak in the meat processing season.
DIOXIN INQUIRY: The Ministry of Health is to test dioxin levels for residents who lived near a chemical plant near New Plymouth. Residents are welcoming the inquiry. People living near the plant have developed MS, cancer and birth defects.
MONTANA WINE: The chairman of the Stock Exchange Surveillance Panel says he is concerned about criticism of the panel over the Montana Wine takeover decision.
CHILD PORN: Seven British men who ran England’s largest internet pedophile network have been sentenced to between 12 and 20 month in jail.
ERO REVIEW: The government will release a report today on the Education Review Office. Schools have been concerned that the ERO has had only a narrow audit role.
QUAKE: Another Earthquake has hit El Salvador killing at least 15 people. The earthquake measured 6.1 on the Richter scale.
PEOPLE’S BANK: The so-called People’s Bank is facing delays as the government seeks support from the Greens and NZ First. The PM hopes a cabinet meeting on Monday will be able to provide final approval.
FARMER SHOT: Police have blocked the road leading to a farm-house in Nelson where a farmer was shot.
KOURNIKOVA VIRUS: The country’s largest ISP Xtra says the spread of the Kournikova virus is slowing. Yesterday it hit several organisations. At its peak around one infected email a second was being detected.
OSCAR NOMINATIONS: Oscar nominations are out and Gladiator, 12, and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, 10, have done very well.
