HOSPITAL WAITING LISTS: The large number of hospital waiting list drop-offs around September last year is concerning the Medical Association. Others say the latest figures are misleading.
HUMAN GENOME: One of the most ambitious scientific projects ever has resulted in two teams publishing the human genome. The two teams were, respectively, publicly and privately funded. On of the scientists says that the information will lead to medical breakthroughs.
DNA CRIMINAL TESTING: The Government is introducing legislation to enable the compulsory acquisition of DNA samples.
SUBMARINE CRASH: Top US officials are pledging a complete investigation into the collision between a US nuclear submarine and a Japanese fishing training vessel. Nine Japanese are missing.
INDONESIAN REFUGEES: A group of Chinese refugees from Indonesia have been offered a place of sanctuary in a North Shore church.
MAF VET STRIKE: MAF vets have been asked to consider the impact a strike would have on other workers in the meat industry. The vets say they will not be striking till Friday at the earliest.
MONTANA WINE: Lion Nathan is rejecting claims that small investors in Montana Wines have been shut out of their takeover bid for the company.
ONE NATION: Pauline Hanson’s One Nation party received 9% of the vote in Western Australia , and because of the instructions given on preferential votes this vote proved decisive in bringing about a Labour victory. Hanson is now campaigning in Queensland.
