Yugoslavia – Israel – Dollar – Bail Bill – Hunger Strike Ends
YUGOSLAVIA: Yugoslavia’s constitutional court has annulled part of the vote in recent elections. It is not clear yet
what this will mean for the election result. Meanwhile coal miners are standing hard against Milosevic.
ISRAEL: A nine-year-old Palestinian boy has died after being shot in the chest in continued fighting in Israel and the
occupied territories. Meanwhile peace talks have begun in Paris.
DOLLAR: The NZ Dollar has bounced off its all time lows and is now trading at 40.5 US Cents. An economist says that it
was the Australian decision not to raise rates that led to the fall in the NZ Dollar yesterday.
BAIL BILL: Parliament has passed new bail laws that mean that offenders with 14 or more custodial sentences will no
longer receive a presumption of bail.
HUNGER STRIKE ENDS: Chinese protestors who have given up a hunger strike say they are relying on the Minister of
Immigration using her discretion wisely.
