Tornado – East Timor – ERB Fillibuster – ERB Background – Treason – Honours – Brad Pitt And Jennifer Aniston in Queenstown
TORNADO! A TORNADO struck Huntly today crushing several buildings. A witness recalls seeing the flying debris. Andre Thompson was inside a building with several of his friends that was lifted up and turned around several times. It moved on to take the roof off a house. And the roof of the Taniwha hotel. It occurred at 7.10am and police were surprised nobody was hurt. NZ’s worst tornadoes have been level 2. Lemon tree plucked.
SOLDIER SHOT: A Nepalese Soldier has been shot on the East Timor border. The Soldier was part of the NZ Battalion.
ERB FILLIBUSTER: Friction, anger and entertainment in Parliament as the Employment Relations Bill progresses. Greens want clause 66 back and inadvertently let in another 220 speeches in the process. The result is tedium. Rod Donald says National and Act have turned the debate into a farce. An amendment has been introduced to save lobsters.
ERB BACKGROUND: 10 years of the ECA has reduced union membership to a quarter of the work force. Changes summarised.
TREASON: George Speight will face a charge of Treason today in a Fiji Court according to police.
HONOURS: Russell Coutts is awarded an honour by the Governor General. Also honoured – Mike Moore – who is awarded the highest honour – the Order of New Zealand.
BRAD PITT AND JENNIFER ANISTON IN QEENSTOWN - A report is circulating that Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston are honeymooning at the American owned Blanket Bay lodge near Queenstown. Locals have their doubts. A TV3 cameraman has been working at the lodge but hadn’t seen them, mind you he didn’t know what they looked like. No one else has seen them either. Like UFOs says one local. The story came initially from IRN. The lodge manager refused to talk about his guests. The Editor of New Idea thinks NZ is possibly the ideal destination for a Hollywood Honeymoon.
