FIJI COUP: The PM Helen Clark says she will be sending a strong message home with the deposed Fijian PM Mahendra Chaudhry following meetings today. The Fijian PM says that he may want further sanctions imposed against Fiji if there is no sign of a return to democracy.
LGNZ ROW: Local Government NZ says that claims that the Government forced the resignation of its CEO are false. The President of LGNZ says Mr McCully’s claims are rubbish and that the CEO has left to “take up a new chapter in her life”.
BABY BASHING: Police investigating the death of a Wairarapa toddler are refusing to be drawn on whether a woman arrested in the case will face further charges. Police expect to spend another couple of days on forensic tests. In Auckland’s starship hospital another bashed toddler remains in a critical condition.
WELLINGTON HOOLIGANISM: The CEO of Wellington Stadium says that the people who threw bottles at the South African referee as he left the Bledisloe Cup may be tracked down and told off.
US ON FIRE: The US has mobilised the army and the National Guard to deal with fires stretching from Canada to Mexico. A State of Emergency has been declared in Oregon.
STOLEN GOLDIE: A Maori leader says that police should be questioning more thoroughly an Auckland businessman who returned a stolen Goldie painting from the Auckland museum. Police say they believe the businessman’s story.
ONLINE LOTTO: Sales for Lotto, Strike, Telebingo and Keno are down and the Lotteries commission is investigating online options for extending its gambling business.
INDONESIA: Charges and documents alleging massive corruption by former Indonesian President Suharto are due to be lodged shortly.
OVERDOSE: The police are interviewing three people who overdosed on an unknown substance at the Power Station at 3am in the morning last night.
