FIJI COUP: The Fijian Capital Suva is deserted this morning after a policeman was shot dead last night by a mob of anfry
armed youths. The death accompanied the ransacking of the offices of Fiji TV. The Great Council of Chiefs were meeting
with the gunmen in the Parliamentary compound at the time
FIJI COUP: NZ Foreign Affairs Minister George Speight says Cabinet will today consider what action NZ should take in
relation to the coup.
NEW ALL BLACK CAPTAIN: The new All Black captain Todd Blackadder says the key to creating a successful team is to have a
team that enjoys playing together. Blackadder says the squad
SEVENS VICTORY: NZ has won the inaugural IRB world sevens championship following the early elimination of the Fijian
squad in the quarterfinals.
ERB: Changes are expected to be made to the Employment Relations Bill today in Cabinet. The government is concerned at
both ideological opposition and practical criticisms.
PERU ELECTIONS: Riot police this morning disbursed students protesting what they believe is a corrupt election in Peru.
SIERRA LEONE: The UN says it hopes more of its peace-keepers will be freed following the release of another 30 hostages
over night in Sierra Leone.
KING COUNTRY SMASH: Two children are in a critical condition in hospital following a crash which killed three in the
King Country over the weekend. The accident involved a tourist bus which is reported to have been out of control.
TEAM NZ: A crucial member of Team NZ designer Laurie Davidson will decide this week whether he will remain with the NZ
Americas Cup team. He says he had a hell of a job getting Team NZ to make a tank model of the boat that won the cup.
