FIJI COUP: The Dominion leads today with a report that the fate of Fiji coup leader George Speight and the man he is holding hostage, Prime Minister Mahendra Chaudhry, will be decided by Fiji’s chiefs today. One of the hostages is pictured leaving the compound yesterday.
FIJI COUP: In another report on the crisis Foreign Minister Phil Goff stepped up the pressure on Fiji’s leaders yesterday, warning that Fijian troops could be barred from International peacekeeping operations if the hostage crisis was not resolved constitutionally.

- TEAM NZ: a report that the designer of Team New Zealand’s two crack Americas Cup boats, laurie Davidson, is being wooed by the Americans;
- ANZ BANK: a report that ANZ Bank has become the first mortgage lender to increase its rates, lifting its floating rate from 8.1% to 8.8% yesterday;
- DOCTOR SHORTAGE: a report that Capital Coast Health was unable to reopen the recently upgraded children’s ward at Kenepuru Hospital because of the New Zealand-wide shortage of doctors, a spokeswoman said yesterday.
