REUSING SYRINGES: Whangarei Hospitals are apologising to patients of an anaesthetist who may have put them at risk by
reusing disposable syringes. The hospital says it has written to patients because they have a right to know. The Dr was
recently suspended for the practice in Melbourne.
ZIMBABWE: The Commonwealth Secretary General is going to Zimbabwe to pass on a message from the Commonwealth Ministerial
Action Group. Meanwhile in Zimbabwe Mr Mugabe’s cabinet has been meeting. Shortly after the CMAG report was released a
report came through that the brother of an opposition election candidate had been murdered.
WAITARA SHOOTING: Police say they have received death threats against the constable who shot Steven Wallace in Waitara
on Sunday Night.
POLICEMAN STABBED: A man has been arrested after a police officer was stabbed in the stomach in Mangere. The police
officer was following up reports of a naked man knocking on windows. The injured constable has undergone surgery.
WEST COAST LOGGING: The PM is stepping into the West Coast logging row and will today meet with Greens to discuss the
issue. Rod Donald says he will be asking the Government to clarify its position.
LEGIONNAIRES DISEASE: There is an outbreak of legionnaires disease involving 47 cases, 9 critical, involving the
Melbourne aquarium.
PHILIPPINES: The government of the Philippines says it will keep up its military cordon around the base of Muslim
separatists who have taken hostages – including westerners.
CORRESPONDENCE SCHOOL: The Correspondence School has released a survival plan. In recent years the school has been
repeatedly criticised by the ERO. A key thrust of the plan is to deliver online programs to students.
PRISON ESCAPERS: Security will be tight at the Auckland District Court this morning for the appearance of two escaped
prisoners who were recaptured yesterday. Travis Burns and Tommy Nikau gave themselves up at a house in Papatoetoe
yesterday.
