CLARK ON ZIMBABWE: The PM Helen Clark says the campaign of farm invasions in Zimbabwe appears to be a tactic to help him
win the upcoming election. Two white farmers have now been killed. Helen Clark says she wants President Mugabe to allow
commonwealth observers to attend the election.
INTEREST RATES UP: The Reserve Bank has announced its decision on interest rates. The Reserve Bank has raised the OCR to
6%. It says it expects inflationary pressures to continue to emerge.
ELDERLY GUNMAN: Police in Detroit have captured a 56 year-old gunman who has run amok in a retirement home. Earlier he
had been accused of sexual harassment.
TOXIC WASTE PROTEST: Environmental activists are protesting in Japan against a ship full of toxic waste. The toxic waste
originally came from former US military bases in Japan. It has been refused in Seattle and Canada.
AUCKLAND TRANSPORT: Infrastructure Auckland intends to spend $460 million on public transport and another $165 million
on roads. The proposals would upgrade rail and buses.
DAIRY MEGA MERGER: Dairy farmers are meeting to discuss the Mega-merger. The meeting will discuss the idea of taking
over ownership directly of the Dairy Board by farmers. At present the shares in the Dairy Board are owned by the Dairy
companies.
