HEALTH BOARDS: The Dominion leads today with a report that The Minister of Health will be able to sack publicly elected members of the new district health boards, the Cabinet has agreed.
PANDAMONIUM: The front-page photo shows the Red Panda that led searchers a merry dance yesterday outside Auckland Zoo.
Also on the front page:
- DRINKING EXCUSES: a report that a British publican has developed the perfect defence for the drinker who needs an excuse for being late home – a phone booth that adds authentic sound effects to any drinker’s excuse;
- FREE PCS: a report that ANZ Bank will spend millions of dollars buying its staff top-of-the-line personal computers for their own use at home, in what is thought to be a New Zealand first;
- PM APOLOGISES: a report that after months of virtual deification Prime Minister Helen Clark was forced to utter three phrases yesterday that no leader particularly enjoys, or in all probability believes: “I made a mistake”, “I’m sorry and, most painfully, “I’m not infallible”;
- COUNCIL DOBBING LINE: a report that Wellington City Council may soon have its own dob-in-a-colleague hotline for staff who suspect their workmates of ripping off the city;
- BIG BUCKS BANNED: a report that a company offering returns of up to 35% a month to potential investors in Wellington has been barred from advertising its investment schemes.
Inside Political Headlines:
- TVNZ’s star system led to a “culture of exorbitance”;
- WINZ faces another inquiry;
- Nats quiet on policy directions;
- Treaty “vital to NZ constitution”;
- Bazley refuses to reveal payout details;
- Moratorium will be observed – MP.
EDITORIAL – FLETCHERS: The sale of Fletcher Paper has provided an adrenalin shot to the share-market.
