WEST COAST: The government is expected to get a response tomorrow from the West Coast on its $100 million offer to the West Coast for the loss of native logging. One estimate say that they think the coast has lost $350 million. Coasters say they also look forward to hearing that the Rimu harvest will be allowed to run its course.
JOHN TAMIHERE: John Tamihere has welcomed an inquiry from the Maori Affairs Select Committee into the Te Waipareira though he says he doesn’t know what it is about.
TAX RISES: High income earners start paying more tax from tomorrow. 160,000 taxpayers will be affected. Super funds report a roaring trade from people trying to avoid the high rate.
GRENADE ACCIDENT: The army is investigating an accident involving a grenade which injured three soldiers.
SOLOMON ISLANDS: New Zealand is trying to help find a solution to the conflict in the Solomon Islands. Mr Goff says NZ has no plans to intervene in a civil war.

UGANDA DOOMSDAY CULT: Another mass grave has been found in Uganda bringing the death toll to over 900. The new grave has been found belonging to a man called Joseph.
WHITE EXTREMIST JAILED: South African white rights extremist Eugene Terre-Blanche has been jailed for a year for a assaulting a petrol attendant in 1996.
