Animal Welfare And Immigration

Published: Tue 31 Mar 2015 10:44 AM
MPs will debate the committee stages of a number of bills covering immigration and animal welfare law when Parliament sits today.
After Question Time today the first item on the Order Paper is the committee stage of the Immigration Amendment Bill (No 2).
This will be followed by the committee stage of the Animal Welfare Amendment Bill. The Greens have submitted an amendment which would ban the use of animals for testing on cosmetic products.
Ministers have been considering whether to support this amendment saying they want to ensure the amendment would not unintentionally cover tests on drugs and medical research. They have been advised no animal testing on cosmetic products takes place in New Zealand and the ban would be largely symbolic.
If there is time MPs will also debate the committee stage of the Objectionable Publications and Indecency Legislation Bill.
