Fashion Week: Lola – Rachel Hunter More Glam Than Glenfield
Mmmm, yep – the girl from Glenfield obviously inhabits a far more glamorous world than that of your average Kiwi gal.
Hers is one of cocktails by the pool – where someone else is fetching the cocktails. That said, apart from the
unnecessary crystal studded belts and cocktail purses that decorated some of the swimsuits sashaying down the runway,
this really was a rather lovely collection of swimwear.
From ‘40s inspired halter-necks, ’50s sportswear in bold red and white stripes or yellow polka dots we took a trip
through the ‘60s with a graphic black & white block print. This collection referenced decades of glamour including a ‘70s inspired print that reminded me of my
parents’ dining room wallpaper.
Interestingly, there was an absence of any real string bikinis – there were even bikini bottoms with a cute skirt
attached - this swimwear is for real women with real curves rather than stick figures.
I loved the cuts of the one-piece suits – these were arguably sexier than their seemingly more obvious bikini sisters
with plunging necklines, ruches and gathers, cutaway sides and very sexy rear views, particularly those that gathered
into a ‘V’ at the rear of the waist.
Many women will applaud the Brazilian cut swimsuit bottoms that cut across the buttock rather than cupping it, giving a
far sexier, less sporty line.
