Foreign Affairs: Goff Scores NATO Defence Intel Deal
New Zealand and NATO have reached agreement on exchanging classified information on a regular basis, which will help facilitate peacekeeping operations where both are involved. The Exchange of Letters took place today in Brussels when Defence Minister Phil Goff met with NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer. "New Zealand has worked with NATO in Bosnia and currently operates alongside NATO forces in Afghanistan. This agreement will provide for the exchange of classified information on a regular basis, rather than on an ad hoc basis as has been the practice to date," Mr Goff said. See... Race Relations: Carter Urges Media To Respect All Cultures
- Ethnic Affairs Minister Chris Carter expressed disappointment today that some New Zealand media had chosen to publish
cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed, which had created strife and tension offshore. "Freedom of the press is very
important to a democratic society like ours, and I acknowledge the deep commitment members of the New Zealand media have
to it. But press freedom also comes with a sense of responsibility," Mr Carter said. See... Treaty Issues: Sharples Reasons Why Waitangi Day 06 Was More Peaceful
- "The speculation that the Maori Party is the reason that peace prevailed at Waitangi this year is flattering, but it
doesn't paint the whole picture" said Dr Pita Sharples. "There has always been peace and protest at Waitangi - as there
is peace and protest at Parliament " said Dr Pita Sharples. "Indeed, the Maori Party celebrates the democratic right of
protest for without it we will descend into tyranny" said Dr Pita Sharples. See... Sharples: Reflections on Waitangi Day [1] ALSO:Combined Inquiry For Whanganui Claims [2]
Scoop Photostory: Fancy Dress Madness Afflicts NZ's Capital
Yesterday, teams from the Rugby Sevens competition paraded through the streets of Wellington at lunchtime, to the sounds
of salsa, pop music and island drums. Today it was the turn of the fans to come out into the glaring Wellington sunshine
dressed as cartoon characters, dodgy military personnel and Thunderbirds puppets. Scoop's Lyndon Hood risked heatstroke
and flying toy bonkers in an effort to document this great NZ sociological event. See... Wellington Sevens Fans Attempt To Steal The Show [1] ALSO:Lyndon Hood - Sevens Parade Leads To Long Lunch Hour For Workers [2]

Lucire's Publisher on the Role of the Media
- I have a lot of sympathy right now for Arabs and Muslims who were offended by the publication of cartoons mocking
Mohammed. It’s another example of media irresponsibility: as if the newspaper that published them, Jyllands-Posten,
didn’t anticipate this reaction. As a media owner, I keep a careful eye on this sort of thing. When we ran a picture of
Gov Schwarzenegger in one issue of Lucire, I made sure the Democrats had someone: we ran a photo of former governor,
Gray Davis, in the same issue. See... What The Mohammed Cartoons Say About The West [1] ALSO:Remi Kanazi: What Would Jesus Do? [2] Ramzy Baroud: Punishing Denmark: Taking on the Wrong Enemy [3] Tanveer Jafri: The Muslims & The Fatwa [4]
Ray McGovern: Has the decsion on Iran Been Made?
- What President George W. Bush, FOX news, and the Washington Times were saying about Iraq three years ago they are now
saying about Iran. After Saturday's vote by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to report Iran's suspicious
nuclear activities to the UN Security Council, the president wasted no time in warning, "The world will not permit the
Iranian regime to gain nuclear weapons." See... Juggernaut Gathering Momentum, Headed for Iran [1] ALSO:'Diplomacy' as a Launch Pad for Missiles To Iran [2] David Swanson: Iran And Venezuela Plan War On Israel [3]
