EXPLANATORY NOTE Re: Scoop's Election Briefings: Over the next few weeks, utilising the latest electronic wizardry, Scoop will be interviewing key players from across the political spectrum. The interviews will be posted in full in audio files in MP3 format with a summary note from the interviewer. The intention is to provide a venue for a more detailed understanding of the thinking of the political parties and their views on policies than can be obtained from the typical debate style presentations being carried by other media.
Wednesday, 24 August 2005 – 12am – National Party Offices Parliament

Today National's Dr Wayne Mapp outlined National's policy in regard to employment at a Business New Zealand conference. Scoop caught up with Dr Mapp, following his presentation of National's employment policies. Scoop questioned Dr Mapp on:
National's plans for rolling back recent employment legislation
National's policy regarding allowing a grievance free period for employers (of 90 days)
National's plans for the Holidays Act and penalty rates
Whether ACC would face competition from the private sector
Also discussed in some details was Nationals' tax cuts, the recent successful (for the workers) Auckland bus strike and why National considered it was unimportant to raise the minimum wage in the 90s.
