What Doone Done - A Doone Retrospective

Without building a Tardis, Scoop has nevertheless managed to travel back to January 2000 to discover how the various political parties viewed Police Commissioner (at the time) Peter Doone, and the driving incident that sparked his early retirement.
Whilst, National Party Leader, Jenny Shipley was fairly approving of the way the Government had handled the case, ACT MP Ken Shirley, appeared to be gunning for Mr Doone’s scalp from day one.
Shirley demanded that Mr Doone should be stood down stood down whilst any inquiry was underway and then begrudged Mr Doone his salary for writing reports on Maori Crime after he did.
"Despite all of Labour's promises they have given a thinly disguised golden handshake to the first senior public servant to go under their administration,” harrumphed Mr Shirley upon discovering the terms of Mr Doone's retirement.
Fortunately for Mr Doone, current ACT Leader,Rodney Hide now seems to consider the entire furore over Mr Doone’s retirement is an injustice the likes of which haven’t been seen since a chap called Dreyfuss enjoyed a Caribbean holiday in the early 1900s
