Mysterious Disease In Angola
By Marietta Gross - Scoop Media Auckland.
Disease similar to Ebola affects particularly children - In past three months 39 people in Angola have succumbed to a disease not yet identified. The anonymous disease, which has similarities with Ebola, has particularly affected children beyond the age of five years, reports the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Dick Thompson from the WHO said this new disease is markedly different from Ebola in that Ebola normally affects adults.
So far, the WHO has no idea whether the disease is fatal, or, how many cases there already are. “We are still waiting for the laboratory results”, said Thompson. He said as the tests involve an unidentified disease, it could be another couple of weeks before clinicians have any results.
Thompson would not exclude that the new disease could be a variation of the Ebola-Virus. The symptoms of the disease – emesis, haemotypsis and calenture – are similar to Ebola, but also to other fever diseases which are connected with bleedings, for example the Dengue-Fever.
