Correction: Katherine Harris's Demise Exaggerated

Published: Wed 9 Jul 2003 11:47 AM
Contrary to a report linked by Scoop last night, and now deleted from the site, Congresswoman Katherine Harris is alive and well and even appeared on the floor in the US Congress this morning.
Scoop apologises to readers for its role in disseminating this story. The source of the report Tom Flocco has written several articles for us in the past – all of which have proved well-researched and accurate.
Tom Flocco has himself retracted the story and for full details of how the story came to be written readers should follow the following link:

His original report to which Scoop linked last night is here:

As can be seen at the links below Scoop was not the only news media taken in by the false report – which was in fact broadcast by Miami's top-rated talk show host Neil Rogers this morning as Katherine Harris was appearing on C-Span.
Scoop prides itself on providing accurate information and apologises unreservedly both to Ms Harris and to readers for this error.

Katherine Harris alive despite Miami radio host's announcement
Miami's top-rated talk show host told its listeners Tuesday that Congresswoman Katherine Harris had died in a plane crash on Monday, according to the Web site at news partner NBC6.
WQAM 560 AM host Neil Rogers apparently saw a posting online that said Harris had died in a plane crash Monday, while in a secret meeting with Florida Gov. Jeb Bush in Canada.
