On Saturday, about 200 Falun Gong practitioners and supporters marched down Queen Street from Aotea Square, protesting the three-year anniversary of the Chinese Government's banning of their organisation, labelling it a 'Dangerous Cult'.
Since July 1999, it has been reported that 100,000 practitioners of Falun Gong have been imprisoned (20,000 of them in labour camps and 'psychiatric' institutions) and 433 practitioners have been killed in the Chinese Government's crackdown on the practice of meditating on the benefits of (in their own words) Truthfulness, Benevolence and Forbearance.
Truthfulness, Benevolence and Forbearance must be a significant threat to China's ruling elite as is shown by the recent removal of their advertising sign from Auckland Airport under the pretext that it 'upset' chinese visitors (who naturally have little experience of the democratic principle of Free Speech).
