- Nokia Arts Awards -
- Asia Pacific 2001 -
"The theme for the Nokia Arts Awards 2001 is a celebration of innovation, artistic vision and the creative human spirit.
Everyday, what we experience in the physical world is shaping our minds - the unique domain where we are free to make
personal statements, amplify our thoughts and express our sentiments. Be it reality or fantasy, we encourage all youth
to cast their eyes on the world and express their artistic sentiments by stating their piece." - Nigel Litchfield,
Senior Vice President, Nokia Mobile Phones, Asia Pacific.
The annual Nokia Arts Awards competition offers young New Zealand artists a chance to study art in New York and Finland
for a year. The Grand Prize of an international educational grant at Parsons School, New York, USA and University of Art
and Design Helsinki (UIAH), Finland, both pre-eminent arts institutions, will be awarded to the top winner of the
regional competition, along with cash prizes, Nokia products and a specially designed Nokia Arts Awards trophy.
Entry is open to all students aged 17-25 years. Entry forms are available by calling 0800 NOKIA ART (0800 665 422).
Closing date for entries is 28 September 2001.

GE Free NZ Rally Rocks Queen St!
TOP SCOOPS
Sludge Report: Israel, Isolated in Durban Wheels Out The "H" Word
- It is as if the school bully, after being told off by the headmaster, but maintaining its right to smack a fellow
pupil around is now telling the entire student body that they are the ones that are wrong, that they have always been
prejudiced against them and that they are unjustly being criticised by their victim who has been “asking for it”. See... Sludge Report #105 – The Return Of The “H” Word [1]
Photo Report On Auckland GE Rally - GE Free Astronauts And Frogatoe Fears + FULL COVERAGE
- "The GE-Free NZ protest in Queen Street went off. Around 10,000 people were there at the height of it in spite of
continual rain." Indymedia Aotearoa reports. See... Stateside: Oh, GE Free Island In The Sea
- Aotearoa (hell, if no-one knows where New Zealand is anyway, let's re-brand with something meaningful to our place on
the planet) is an individual at a very basic level. Like Madagascar it separated from the large land masses it was once
part of long enough ago for it to have unique flora and fauna. And it is far enough away from those large land masses to
remain biologically insular if it chooses to do so. See... Stateside with Rosalea: Bubble Nation [1]
Alliance Goes GE Free
- The Alliance wants a moratorium on the release of genetically modified organisms until the technology is proven to be
safe, while it's supporting contained research on GM as well as research and development, and production of GM
medicines. See... Alliance GE Free - Position Paper on GM [1] . See also Staunch Alliance - No GE For Us Thanks! [2]
Howard’s End: Dealing With Bureaucratic Replicants
- My recent Howard's End column "Organisational Psychopaths" drew a global response to my email from Scoop readers. The
central thrust of the feedback was very positive and asked for my views of exactly where I consider things could be
further improved in New Zealand. Well, here goes. See... Howard's End: Viral Bureaucracy [1]
NZ First Annual Convention – Christ Trotter Speech
- To answer the question: ‘What tore NZ First apart?’ we must descend to the lower levels of New Zealand’s social
architecture; to the place where all of the nation’s grubby little secrets are kept hidden away. It’s an answer that
everybody knows, but nobody cares to discuss: NZ First was torn apart by racial hostility. See... New Zealanders First - Chris Trotter Speech [1]
NZ First Annual Convention – Winston Peters Speech
- Chris Trotter is correct. We have been the victims of an awful snobbery of the pretentious elite that resides in
parts of our country’s establishment, Wellington’s bureaucracy and the big city media. See... Winston Peters Speech To Annual Conference [1]
Fiji: Chiefs Plead For Acceptance Of Ballot
- A western Fijian high chief has called on the people of Fiji to accept the new government that will be formed after
the general election ended yesterday, the Sun reports today. See... Fijian High Chief Pleads For Acceptance Of Ballot [1] and Blocking Labour 'Tragedy' For Fiji, Warns Professor [2]
NZ To The Rescue For Christmas Island Refugees

Intentions. See... It’s A Good Time To Buy A House [1]
Women Sovereign Over Their Own Bodies – Libz
- Libertarianz health deregulation spokesman Dr Richard McGrath today explained his party's stance on the
soon-to-be-available 'abortion pill'. "My party supports abortion on demand," he said. "While realising that most women
do not choose this course of action, it is better that the procedure be available legally, rather than driven
underground." See... Libz Unequivocal On New Abortion Pill [1]
Ban Painful Capon Squawking Pill – Correctives
- Christian Haemorrhoids can be cured!!!" said the Corrective Party Leader. She hoped to convince politicians to ban
further imports of K-PIL 666 from New Zealand. See... Correctives: Forget RU486- What Of K-PIL 666? [1]
