More images of the environs of the most photogenic mountain village in the world taken by Norman Mackay .
Lake Ohau has had what might be termed a thaw. The weather has warmed by considerably, and most of the ice has all but gone. It is a welcome relief after such a prolonged cold spell of weather.
My Davis weather station tells me that we have only had 9.6mm of rain since the 26th June. Not much rain over a five week period, and yet the level of Lake Ohau really has not changed much at all. The lake we repeatedly see on television each night is Lake Tekapo which appears quite low.

Lake Middleton with Ice - taken on the 14th of June at about 10.00am. The lake was beginning to ice over, and there was a heavy frost on top of the ice layer covering part of the lake.
