George Spieght has kept true to his promise and released the final 18 hostages held in the Parliamentary complex in Suva.
Radio New Zealand reports said the hostages, which included deposed Fijian Prime Minister Mahendra Chaudhry and his son, were released by the rebels a short-time ago. They are currently at a red cross station where they are being checked over by a doctor. The hostages are expected to return to their homes.
The release marks an end to the hostage crisis which has lasted over seven weeks.
Scoop will update the situation as further information comes to hand.
