Clinton: Imprisonment of Canadian Journalist in Malaysia
THE WHITE HOUSE
Office of the Press Secretary
(Auckland, New Zealand)
For Immediate Release September 13, 1999
Statement by the Press Secretary
The President is deeply concerned about the imprisonment of the
Canadian journalist Murray Hiebert in Malaysia. Putting a journalist
in jail for doing his job undermines the press freedoms that play such
a critical role in building a democratic society.
We will continue to monitor developments in this case closely.
