Charity helps victims of domestic abuse

Published: Mon 28 Nov 2016 10:20 AM
I Got Your Back Pack is a charity which supports women’s refuge. We feel strongly that unless people continue to talk about this issue, and see abusive behavior being questioned and challenged in the public sphere, the domestic violence culture in New Zealand will never change. Help us to help women in New Zealand from being abused.
We are a registered charity who put together backpacks of practical and essential items for victims of domestic abuse, for the women and children who often have to leave their homes with nothing but the clothes on their back. We send these backpacks to Women’s Refuge so that they can be distributed to those in need.
But we want to expand on this, and become part of the movement working to change the widespread culture of domestic violence in this country by raising awareness, and lobbying for legislation changes. 1 in 3 women in New Zealand, experience physical or sexual violence from a partner in their lifetime, a horrific statistic that many of the volunteers for ‘I Got Your Back Pack’ have experienced first-hand.
