Brain Awareness Week: A good start can make a big difference
This week is Brain Awareness Week and GymbaROO Wellington says getting very young children off to a good start with the
right activities can kick start their neurological development and help brighten their futures.
“There is a mountain of evidence now that the positive benefits of singing, dancing, massage, playing simple musical
instruments, climbing on purpose built circuit equipment and similar activities respectful of their developmental
stages/ages can really help in terms of babies’ pre-school neurological growth,” says co-owner and teacher, Malcolm
Aitken.
“The children and parents/carers who participate in GymbaROO, including its baby stream, BabyROO, are standing on the
shoulders of giants in terms of the cutting edge neurological research, the evidence base and the expert development of
the GymbaROO programme that has occurred over the past few decades. The time commitment is just one weekly 45 minute
session and participating families can also benefit from hours’ worth of games at home that they learn about at
GymbaROO.
“We are holding free classes for babies up to a year old from 9.30am on 8 April at the Wests Roosters Rugby Club in
Wilton. Our Nurturing Baby’s Brain day will give children and parents the chance to sample BabyROO.”
