Design team meet West Coast staff to progress initial concept design phase for facilities redevelopment

Architects and health planners met with clinicians and operational staff from the West Coast DHB last week to start the first stage in the design process for a new $60 million hospital and adjoining Integrated Family Health Centre in Greymouth, and an $8 million Integrated Family Health Centre in Buller.

David Meates, West Coast DHB chief executive says, “Over the next six weeks workshops will take place in Buller and Greymouth, with staff inputting their clinical and operational expertise during this very initial concept planning stage for the new facilities”.

The concept planning stage is the first step in the design process [see attached diagram of rebuild process], with four other design stages to occur, culminating in construction which is scheduled to be complete in December 2016.

“While we are working to a tight timeframe for this initial concept planning stage, our intention is to share progress and collect any feedback from the wider community as the design process unfolds. We will also be working closely with the government appointed Partnership Group, feeding in the outputs of this work as part of the Partnership Group’s decision making process.

“We are committed to ensuring the West Coast community, including iwi, is really well informed along the way”, says David Meates.

Design team leader, architect Adam Flowers says, “The discussions with staff have been vibrant and robust. We’re impressed with the passion and enthusiasm that staff members are bringing to these important projects.”
